    Mitragyna speciosa (commonly known as kratom) is a tropical evergreen tree in the coffee family native to Southeast Asia. Kratom is indigenous to Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Papua New Guinea. Kratom leaves has been used in traditional medicines in these regions since at least the nineteenth century. Traditionally, it is chewed on or consumed as a tea after the leaves have been dried/cured.
